Today our NDT team did a try out of a new inspection service in cooperation with our client to pre-inspect a flarestack with an octocopter. Problem with inspections of flarestacks is that you can not enter it when it is in operation. Installations do not like to shut off these stacks. Preferably only during total shutdowns. This octocopter pre-inspection is to give the client a global insight of the integrity of the flarestack components. This way we and the client can already make up a more detailed inspection- & repair plan for the upcoming shutdown. Purpose is to limit the shutdown time of the stack. During a shutdown this spring we do close inspections and repairs with rope access techniques.
